“East meets West...and South”
$1,200
Pyrography, Tattoo ink, Acrylic Paint, Prismacolor Pencil on Zero Skateboard
This skateboard art is an homage to Christian Hosoi’s 1980s “Rising Sun” deck. It features a pair of praying hands with two fingers raised, referencing the playful Japanese game of Kancho, where one person pokes another in a “cheeky” twist on tag.
The hands are wrapped with rosary-like anal beads, culminating in an anal plug at the bottom, symbolizing the spiritual and physical defense against the kancho attack, merging sacredness with playful irreverence. The banner reads “Hori Kancho,” with “Hori” translating to both “Master” and “To Dig.”
This piece blends elements of Japanese tattoo culture, west coast black and grey tattooing, and a nod to the “south” of a person, resulting in a visual narrative that celebrates diverse cultural influences.
