“I like to think of what I do as culturally-based tattooing. Studying various tattoo traditions allows me to put a contemporary spin on my designs while maintaining the look and feel of the original tradition.”

FEATURED WORKS

yggdrasil "World Tree"
Nordic Style
Yggdrasil (from an Old Norse translation) is an immense mythical tree that plays a central role in Norse cosmology, where it connects the Nine Worlds. It also translates well into tattoos that flow with the body.

The Wolf
Skoll Chasing the moon
Norse mythology states, when Ragnarok breaks the sky and the Yggdrasil trembles, darkness will fall upon the cosmos. We can attribute this darkness to the wolf Skoll and his counter part Hati for finally eating the moon and sun.

Tahitian Polynesian Tattoo
Jim began collecting tattoos from Rory nearly 10 years ago, and has since completed an impressive Tahitian or Polynesian inspired left side panel. His tattoo includes a half dozen of his favorite sea creatures and a smily face.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
I sometimes think of what I do as culturally-based tattooing.
I try to study the many and various tattoo traditions, but it’s also possible to create culturally specific tattoos that are based on designs taken from fabric, pottery, or what-have-you. I try always to put a contemporary slant on my designs, maintaining the look and feel of the original tradition, but out of respect, not taking the tradition too literally. I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes. read full bio
